"Oh," Was all that Lucian said out loud, despite his numerous thoughts. Disappointment was a primary emotion, because he would have much preferred to feed with other demons using that method, not feed from a human instead. He wanted his partner to be an equal, a demon like him, not prey like humanity, not prey like the woman that the two young demons had so easily torn apart and devoured between themselves. Lucian had not wished to have intercourse with that woman, and he could not imagine wishing to have intercourse with another of humanity when all seemed painted in dull shades by this encounter.

All that seemed interesting was the hydra that was before him, who moved in such fascinating ways, and said such curious things, and always seemed willing to answer his questions. That was what Lucian was interested in in this moment, not the pitifully weak creatures known as humanity. Golden eyes observed the hydra, watching the other as he cleaned himself with such ease, convenience gained from having more heads than one. Once more, Conan found himself wondering at that, and he observed each head, noting what action it had chosen to do.

Because all of them were Caan, yet all were separate as well. The young dragon desired to know each and every one, even Spartan and Romeo, who he knew not how to talk to. But they had been the first two to speak to him, and Lucian was ever so grateful for that. He only wished he could give the other something in return for the gift that Caan had given him. Then this would be perfect.

As it was, the young dragon only watched the other young demon in silence. No matter how long he watched, the hydra's movements remained eternally fascinating, always active and observant of the world around, and so very amazing. Lucian was certain that he could watch the other for a very long time indeed, if the other let him do so. Each moment around the hydra proved more captivating than the next.

However, he knew not if the other would let him do so. Now seemed like the time to part, yet Lucian did not wish to go. He knew not what to say to the other to indicate such, and he found himself lingering in the moment, hoping that if he did not acknowledge the fact that he would have to part from the other, then he would in the end not have to do so. So, he only sat in silence and watched the other with his golden eyes, hoping for some excuse to stay instead of leave. Lucian felt as if he would accept any excuse simply to stay. It was a strange feeling.

"We are demons. We can feed off each other a little. But we'll always need humans to gain most of our sustenance."

That was Spartan. A raw angry sound to his voice as the head turned to regard him. The gleaming eyes focused on Lucian as the head twisted and looked at him from upside down. Teeth bared as it flared its side scales at him and let out a soft hiss. The large head twisting back upright as one of the other heads nipped at it with a snap of teeth. That head turned to look at Lucian.

"Once you have found whatever it is that you crave to feed off of you will find yourself looking for humans to feed from. You will be drawn to them. We are predators and they are prey. That is just the way it goes. They have demons inside of them. But they are weaker things that have bound themselves to human hosts and are spun back into freedom when their human body dies."

That was the head next to Spartan, the one called Thinker. It gave a more reasoned diplomatic answer as it considered what looked to be disappointment on the face of the dragon. Trying to interpret his scaled face as it looked at him with gleaming eyes. The other heads merely twisted and shifted around each other. Their heads hissing softly and turning around each other as they squirmed and slithered against each other.

Greed kept careful hold on the bag of cash. Determined to keep it for later when it needed his money to stay in his home.

Spartan spoke true words, angry though the head was. Lucian stared back into gleaming eyes with his own golden eyes, and he found himself wishing, most foolishly, that the other was wrong about this. That the other's words were false, or full of deceit. But the young dragon trusted the hydra's words, though he disliked the truths that he heard. It was simply how things were, according to this demon that was a great deal younger than him in comparison, yet knew so much more of the world than Lucian himself did. His words rang true, and Lucian found he could not protest when placed before something that was so clearly the truth.

Lucian did not want to need humans. A dependence on another race that he could eat so easily, just like he had, felt wrong. The young demon wished it was some falsehood. Humans were food. But humans were also living, thinking creatures, that more often than not fell short of demons. They were like demons, in some ways, and sometimes he could almost pretend they were such, but they were little more than pale imitations, and Lucian did not want to settle for imitations. He wanted what was real.

But there were numerous ways that one could feed, and Lucian could always choose not to need from humans through intercourse, if it appalled him so. He could not imagine an interesting human like the one he had speculated he would want to claim and keep being a true creature that lived in reality instead of simply in a world of make believe. For example, he could not picture a human as intriguing as Caan was, with his many heads and his fascinating movements and his answering of Lucian's question in a way that the young dragon approved off. There could be no human like Caan, Lucian was sure.

He gave a tiny nod at the Thinker's words, but found himself without words to respond with, lost in thought on this subject as he was. It was a difficult situation, to desire something unattainable. The young dragon did not like it. If there was such a clear separation between humans and demons, as there was, then why did they have to be linked together in such a way? He voiced this thought, at long last speaking. "I do not understand why it must be the way that it is," The young demon confessed. "I do not like this dependence."

It came naturally to him, to voice his thoughts out loud to the hydra. His pauses were only due to being lost in the process of thinking, not by any sort of hesitation or doubt. Such a feeling hardly even occurred to him as something that he should feel, having grown comfortable with the hydra's presence.

Caan considered Lucian's plaintive declaration. The heads twisting and turning among each other. The demon hydra's heads looked at each other and bobbed. Twisting and turning amongst each other as they hissed softly and nipped at each other's throats. The figure dug his clawed toes deep into the ground beneath him and his jaws opened and his lips drooled green acid onto the ground, burning into the stone as the creature hissed again. Then the heads turned to look at Lucian again and Thinker replied in his soft sibilant voice.

"We do not know why demons are reliant upon humans for their major food source. But it seems to be the way things are. We cannot explain it to you because we do not know the answer. There is no soothing you because we do not have a good answer for you."

The hydra lashed his tail back and forth behind him. His tail sweeping low as it swept back and forth. Driving his tail against a thick stone and hissing in pain as his tail bruised itself. The dark scales dented from the impact. But then the scales began to slowly even out and the darkness soothed back to his sleek purple finish. The creature regarded Lucian but had no answers for him. Unsure how to answer his dilemma.

The creature's heads twisted and turned among each other and shifted to look around, looking in multiple directions as they kept watch to make sure that something wasn't coming to hunt them. The hydra had learned to be paranoid when spending time in the ruins.

"It is how it is," Lucian agreed, after a brief moment of silence following the thinker's words. Reluctant though Lucian was to accept the truth, it did not stop it from being the truth. The young demon might wish for the world to work in a different manner, but wishing would not make it so. He therefore did not protest any further, despite the fact that if it had been his mother, Lucian would have argued more. This was not his mother, this was Caan, and Caan had done his best to answer any and all questions he had voiced thus far. He did not deserve Lucian's fury at the world, frustrating as it was.

As the hydra's tail hit into hard stone, a concerned noise was startled out of Lucian. It was a wordless noise, more sound and emoting than anything further. It had been the first response his mind had gone to, abrupt and startling was his worry for the other's wellbeing. Yet, the young dragon was almost just as startled to see the harm done from the impact fix itself, as if it had never been there to begin with. Surprised though Lucian was, he was also so very relieved to see the damage vanishing from the other's body. He did not question it, deciding that the reason mattered little, and simply accepted it for what it was; a good thing.

Caan's heads, with the exception of Caan, all seemed more and more restless, and the young dragon could not help but feel concerned. It felt as if the other was searching for nearby, or something of the sort, though the month old demon could not imagine what the hydra might be seeking in the ruins. He glanced around briefly, seeing only rubble, and then glanced back at the hydra, curiosity gleaming in his golden eyes.

"What are you looking for?" Lucian inquired, head tilting slightly to the side, causing his mane to shift on top of him and rearranging the fiery golden hairs slightly. Perhaps, whatever the other was looking for, Lucian could help with. Lucian would be pleased to help Caan in some way. Indeed, he very much wanted to aid the hydra with any task that Lucian could be of use for. The young dragon knew not how he could be useful, but he wanted to be, for Caan.

The young dragon could not recall ever feeling in such a way in the past. This feeling of wishing to help another that was not his twin sister was an entirely new feeling, and he wondered if it would apply to all beings now. He did not think so. He was relatively certain that this feeling was unique to Caan. Perhaps he simply had not felt this way before because he had not yet met Caan the Hydra, with his intriguing self.

Caan spoke in a slow hissing voice through his central head. Turning to focus it once more upon Lucian.

"We are looking to see if there are other beasts or monsters around. Many things lurk in the area of Monai and some of them have a taste for demon flesh. We have also seen dragons of a much larger variety flying in the area. We do not know if they would try to eat us, but we have been attacked by smaller monsters before. Now that the city has been left to the refugees and the scavengers the monsters grow bolder and seek to claim the place for their own."

The head spoke slowly and padded forward towards Lucian. Greed, the second head from the left leaned down and began to lick the blood off Lucian's muzzle. It's long forked tongue flicking out repeatedly to slide across his golden scales. Cleaning it thoroughly, as long as the dragon didn't pull his face away. The other heads of the hydra maintained a lookout.

Thinker bent down and picked up the bag of cash that Greed had dropped. Claiming it back within his jaws as he held it in his teeth. The fourth head on the right was curled back up away from the middle of his chest to keep it too high for others to claim the treasure they had found. Though they didn't actually know how much cash the woman had gathered from the bank before they had found and killed her.

The hydra dug his claws into the stone and shook his thick squat body back and forth for a moment with a rattle of scales. His tail sweeping back and forth slowly as he looked at Lucian with at least two eyes. His voice deep and sonorous as Caan spoke up once more.

"Can you fly without wings?"

The hydra was curious. He could not fly after all. He wondered what it would be like to be lifted into the sky and travel across the land in a swift journey. He looked up at the sky to see if anything was flying over them and didn't see anything.

Lucian had not considered that there might be danger in the ruins. He might have felt shame, if not for the simple way that the hydra explained it to him, not expecting him to know and going into enough detail that the dragon was able to comprehend. At the mention of other dragons, Lucian could not help but briefly wonder if his father was one of those dragons that flew the ruins. It was a question that he kept in mind to be considered at a later date, with Caan before him at the present moment.

The golden scaled dragon did not mind having Caan as his focus. The hydra remained nice and interesting in his mind, and at this point it would take something major to sway his opinion. He was decidedly liking the other reptilian demon. One of the heads leaned towards him, perhaps greed if Lucian remembered correctly, he had made a mental note, it was only that sometimes the other heads got all twisted up and things got a bit complicated. Regardless of the head's particular name, Lucian made no moves to stop the other, only watching the other curiously. Suspicion at the other's potential motives was never a thought in his head.

The forked tongue that flicked across his scales was a welcome surprise, so far as surprises went. Once more, Lucian could not help but feel an instinctive pleased part of him that was positively thrilled that another demon was willing to clean him after presenting him will a kill from a hunt done especially for him. It was something that he did not quite understand, but he recognized both of these events as good and felt pleased himself with hydra's actions. He made no move to escape the head, contently turning his head only when necessary to help the hydra reach somewhere.

At the question, Lucian was caught by surprise, and the immediate sense of longing that swept over him was a sudden and powerful thing. Golden eyes watched the hydra, and Lucian was quiet for a moment, before he finally answered. "No." It was at first only that short answer, with the young dragon slow to elaborate, but doing so regardless. "I cannot." He thought over this carefully. "I believe it is a power that will come with time."

"I am unsure how much time," The young dragon admitted after another pause. It could be days, it could be years. The longing was strong within him, despite his flightless state. "I would greatly enjoy the ability to fly," He spoke quietly, audibly, thinking of air of the air upon his scales and the view as he looked down from above. It was the view that felt most natural to him, yet he had never truly experienced it for himself.

The hydra's heads bobbed and Thinker spoke up. The fourth head for the right. It's voice deep and smooth with only a slight trace of the hissing that some of the other heads demonstrated.

"We started life with only the ability to create acid and control it. But we have had that power grow significantly since we were a newborn a mere two weeks ago. We have also developed a new power since then. We now heal wounds much faster than we did before. We believe that is because of a fight we had with a human in a bar that was much stronger than us. The human struck us with lightening and we started to heal slowly. We thank that healing for having kept us alive. New powers do seem to develop as you grow older and more experienced with life. Perhaps flight will be the power you develop next if you truly want it badly enough."

The head spoke softly and curled a neck around Lucian's in a strange reptilian hug. His head laying his head alongside the dragon's as he gave the creature a brief squeeze. Then the heads unwound and straightened up once more.

Once again the heads had dropped the bag of cash and this time Greed reached down and snatched it back up. Letting out a hiss over the fact that they kept forgetting about the stupid thing. They wanted to keep the money for themselves as they turned and looked around the ruins. The demons voices speaking together except for Greed holding the cash.

"Perhaps we can find more humans to devour. You will feel better as you grow stronger and eat more. We find that feeding regularly helps us a great deal. Perhaps it will help you as well. Besides, the taste is good. Is it not?"

The heads waited for Lucian to decide before they started walking in a different direction to try and find more refugees hiding among the ruins.

The hydra's words were comforting, soothing a fear that the young dragon was barely aware that he had. It had occurred to him once or twice, or perhaps a few times more, that he might never be able to fly, despite having a dragon's instinctive desire for flight. Dragons were meant to fly. That he could not was something that he could not help but think about when he was not confounded by too strong of questions. Hearing that Caan had gotten into a fight and gotten hurt was a distressing idea to the young dragon. The other's touch was a comfort that the other curled into, and Lucian was reluctant to see the head leave.

Lucian was disturbed by the idea that Caan could have died before Lucian had ever even met him. It was an unsettling possibility, and that the hydra admitted that it had been a distinct option if not for the healing showing up then, when Caan needed it so, was something that Lucian's thoughts lingered on, much as he did not want to think upon the idea. Before, he had only been grateful for the hydra's healing in a sense of healing the other of smaller wounds. That it had saved the other from death made Lucian exceptionally relieved that the other had been lucky enough to develop healing. He wanted to somehow express this idea to the other, but he found himself unsure of what works to say, so he stayed quiet and only clung to hydra a little bit.

That humanity could produce such a being that could take down the hydra was an idea that left the young dragon distinctly displeased. He had not thought humanity strong, but to produce such an individual there had to be some rare exceptions. Humans were something to be wary of. The way they used demonic powers was odd to Lucian, and he did not like that they had gained an opportunity to fight back like they had. A human had injured Caan, nearly killed him. Lucian did not like that all.

At the other's multi-voiced question, Lucian perked up some, liking the thought of hunting down humans, especially after that tale. Lucian bobbed his head in agreement. "It is," He contently agreed, recalling the recent memory of sharing in the hydra's catch. "Perhaps I shall catch one on my own," The young dragon suggested hopefully. It was not that he had not enjoyed sharing the hydra's kill, he had, it was only that Lucian wanted to prove to the other that he was capable of doing something such as hunting on his own.

Golden scales gleamed in reflected light, and the young dragon was quite a noticeable sight as he scaled the rubble of the ruins. His form was long and awkward, poorly suited for ground movements, but his claws were sharp and his grip was firm, allowing the dragon to maneuver easily enough.

The squat muscled hydra began to pad along as the heads twisted and sniffed around. They spoke in unison as they looked at Lucian's gleaming golden scales as they hissed softly and looked at her. The large figure stalked clumsily through the ruins. His tail lashing back and forth behind him as he strolled along on his wide spread legs. His multiple heads shifting and looking around curiously as they looked through the rubble. Each one trying to sniff out something unique.

"We think you hunting a human of your own is a very good idea. After all you must learn to feed yourself."

There was no criticism in the unison as the heads spoke. All but Greed who was clutching the bag of cash. The hydra just seemed to be supportive of Lucian learning how to feed on his own. The heads twisting and sniffing as they moved through the ruins.

Occasionally he exhaled a cloud of acidic vapor into one of the crevasses to see if anything was lurking inside of the holes. The dragon was much to large to fit into the spaces himself and he didn't want to try and get one of his heads stuck inside of the holes. So he attempted to flush people out with a sizzling exhalation of acid. But so far he wasn't having any good luck in drawing people out of them.

He hissed to himself as he stalked along. The heads twisting and turning amongst each other as they looked around. Sniffing constantly as they tried to pick up the scent of humanity.

The hydra's approval pleased the young dragon, who took even more to the idea after the agreement. It was not something he had ever considered doing before, but Lucian very much wanted to be able to succeed now. He was not quite sure how he would go about hunting a human, but it could not be that hard, surely. It was probably harder than Caan had made it look before. Caan had made it look positively easy. However, this time around, the hunt was slower. Caan was doing a good job being thorough, but a human had not yet turned up. Lucian was beginning to wonder if one ever would. It certainly was beginning to seem like it.

Lucian was maneuvering over, around, and between various debris when he saw it. It was debris, like the rest, but it was something more as well. The young dragon paused in front of this one particular piece of debris lying in the ruins. It was different from some of rubble around, having a reflective surface to it. Lucian could seem himself, in his dragon form as he always appeared to be in his own reflection except when he focused on it being otherwise. However, there was more in the cracked mirror than the dragon's own form.

He turned around casually, scanning the area behind him before turning back to the mirror. It was still there, but it was not there. It was a human, legs shaking but not moving an inch. It was smarter than most of the humans in the ruins, having come with its own form of protection that it could take on in order to hide from the demons that roamed the ruins as well. It was a smart move for a human, but not smart enough, unfortunately for the human and fortunately for him and Caan. Once more he scanned the area around him, including the area in which the human was hiding in. As it was the second time he had done so, the shaking had increased, but the human remained still. Good.

Golden eyes turned away from the mirror and to a direction beside where the human was, but not quite directly in the same direction. Hopefully, such a maneuver would stop the human from immediately reacting to Lucian's actions. The dragon had a theory, and that was that the human dared not risk moving. For while the other could hide from sight, there were other senses that were not as blind to an invisible being, such as hearing. And the human was frozen in a very precarious area. The slightest shift, and small pieces of rubble would move, giving away the sound.

Lucian scanned the area once more, recognizing it from the mirror, as well as the empty space where Lucian knew a human was. Golden eyes pinned the space in place, and at the sound and sight of shifting rubble, the young dragon lunged before the human could further escape. A shout hit the silent ruins, as the human cried out as Lucian attached himself to a leg, but the human was quick to fight back, kicking and hitting at the dragon's face. He was no longer invisible, having given that up when the pain had hit him. Lucian bit down harder with sharp teeth, but it was difficult holding on through the struggle, and Lucian was not altogether sure he could keep his grip upon the human for much longer.

Caan's heads whipped around as Lucian lunged and bit into something that wasn't there. The hydra's gleaming eyes expanding as they took in the fact that the dragon had apparently identified an invisible human and managed to sink his teeth into them.

The squat bodied creature twisted on his legs, coming around in a circle to face the dragon and the human as the man fought to protect himself from the dragon's bite. The human was a scrapper and Lucian looked like he was having a hard time hanging onto him. The heads of the hydra bent down and he moved closer to the struggling pair and the heads formed a ring around the struggle. Greed set down the bag of cash as the heads formed a circle around Lucian's head and the struggling human and hissed at the man, keeping him relatively contained.

The hydra wasn't going to make the kill for Lucian. That was the dragons' job. But his heads were nudging against the human to keep it from escaping. They weren't going to kill the human for Lucian but they were willing to nudge it and keep it steady as they looked at the struggling pair.

The hydra sniffed at the man and took in his scent. Reminding himself that they were in the middle of the public and the heads shifted to look past each other to keep a scouting eye in all the directions of the compass as they slowly shifted around Lucian's prey and struggled to keep him in the middle of the circle.

When the hydra began to move in, Lucian assumed that the other was here for the kill. The young dragon could not bring himself to mind the idea, though he felt a bit disappointed that he had not been able to prove to the other that Lucian could make a kill. However, what happened instead would have left him speechless, were it a time to talk. As it was, it finally gave the dragon a chance to escape the man's struggles, at least briefly, before Lucian attacked once more. It was a quick respite, but it was a welcome one.

Sharp claws grabbed at flesh, slicing through skin below the man's ribs as Lucian hauled himself up the man's body. He snapped sharp teeth at the man's neck, and that was end to it. His teeth pierced through flesh, and the man choked on his own blood in his last moments as jaws pressed tight around the man's neck. The blood in Lucian's mouth only whet his appetite for more. When at last the struggles ceased, Lucian was curled around the body of a dead man, the human having collapsed whilst the dragon had ended him.

It was a temptation to eat, but Lucian withdrew some, giving the slightest of distance. Golden eyes and a bloodied snout looked up at Caan, an the temptation to do something else was far stronger. "Share with me?" Lucian asked quietly, with voice hopeful. The other had shared his own kill with Lucian, and it seemed important to share this kill with Caan. An instinctive part of him was pleased by his offer, and greatly desiring for the other's acceptance.

If the hydra did not accept, the young dragon was not entirely sure what he would do. The idea of eating the man alone did not provoke the same satisfaction as the idea of sharing the kill with another, with Caan in particular. There was no doubt that he would enjoy the meal, the meat was good, as he had learned. But it simply would not be the same. It would not be the same, and it could not compare to sharing the meal with Caan.

And so Lucian could only gaze at the other, hoping the other would be agreeable with regards to this. The other had helped him with his kill, and Lucian was grateful and desired to show it, but that was not all there was to it all. On some simple, basic level, Lucian liked the idea of paying back the other, but there was far more to it than that. This instinctual side of him felt something deeper, some greater importance to the sharing of kills that made it feel nearly sacred. Every part of him wished for the hydra to accept his offer.

"We will share."

The hydra's heads bent down and one head bit down on each arm at the shoulder. They bit down hard and brunched through the bones at the shoulder and with a twist of their heads they wrenched the arms out of their sockets and shook their heads. Then the heads raising into the air like a serpent and began to swallow. Gulping at the meat in their mouth as they chewed to break the bones to pieces and make swallowing the muscular arms easier.

Greed bent down and picked up the bag of cash once more and held it in his jaws. Determined that they weren't going to lose the money they had gathered from the woman that had been seeking to rob the ruins of the bank. The voracious head was already counting the money that they hoped to gather from the bag as soon as they could get back to their private home.

The other heads watched Lucian to see how much of the body that the dragon would eat. He could eat more but he didn't want to deprive Lucian of the kill he had worked so hard to achieve for himself. The hydra had eaten many humans after all. He was curious to see how much the dragon would consume considering eating flesh was a relatively new experience for the dragon.

The hydra lashed his tail slowly back and forth and his various heads shifted and turned to look back and forth as they kept a gaze going for the the area around them. Still determined to keep an eye out to make sure that they were going to NOT be ambushed by someone who might take offense at the fact that they might be eating the refugees here in the ruins.
