The crowd was intoxicating and a bit overwhelming. Had not been in such a large area for so long. Was supposed to be meeting Father, Sister, and Mother to go through the festival but had got side tracked. It was not his fault, this bird had flown into a window and he immediately went to scoop it up. His hands too cold for it, tried to bundle it with leaves in his hands and then raced to go and bring it to the hospital. Well, he only got a few steps before the bird spazzed the fuck out and flew straight into the sky. His head tilting back, eyes widening as he watched it fly away with all the enamoured glory he held for all birds. That was when he saw them. Saw them all in the sky. Swooping and diving. Some were shaped like dragons, some were shaped like diamonds, some were colourful and some had tails and it was so beautiful! There were so very many, and so very high up. His chin was tilted, and he was already moving swiftly. Those bare feet of his moving swiftly through the crowd. Gravity pulling away from him, so any that came near him was immediately flopped to the ground in a parted sea. Not a mind towards them, never a mind towards t h e m.

Shoving one individual out of the way as he walked swift, fast, his eyes never leaving the target. A smile brightening his face in complete awe as one of the designs of...whatever they were..swooped low to the ground and ran across the grass before soaring! Soaring so high! LOOK AT IT FLY HAHA! The joy on his face as his hands pressed against the cherry blossom trunk, not even paying mind to the soft petals that fell and landed on his hair and shoulders. Followed, focused, solely on those beautiful images in the sky. What it must be like to be up there! All the people below, swooping and swerving the kites were unimportant, unimportant because he did not even see them! Did not see them. Did not remember he was supposed to meet up with Father, Sister and Mother. Was fully encompassed with the flying things. His attention span, it was not normally the best. Was never able to really remember when he was going somewhere. To the chagrin of his father, he was literally late for absolutely everything. If he remembered to show up. Sometimes....Sometimes he got a bit distracted.

Quick. Aggressive. Pins and needles. The earth shook with her steps and her breath drew out a thin line of frost despite of the warmth of the spring day. Echolocation pinged the area of hundreds, thousands even, but the memory of their morphology was harshly discarded. Knew the one she was specifically looking for, the way he moved, how fast he moved, the shape of him, the height of him, all things that the mechanical little pings in the pit of her neck would locate. And once it did she was fast upon him with no amount of delay. Long strides of long legs, an unkind gait. Gravity forced anything in her line of vision to be smashed to the earth and that included living things, their bodies hitting the dirt chin or nose first. Cries of shock and pain were ignored.

And when she finally rounded the bend of trees and stared down at the flat clearing of the lush little valley property, she froze there at the little hilltop. Her heart settled back into her chest and those skewed sensations within her slowly settled one by one. Cogs moving out of turn, no longer a system that was operating dependent on each well-formed piece. Could not find her baby. Someone had taken her baby. Someone had taken her baby again. People all around. The People all-fucking-around. Reliving the moment with almost the same harshness as she relived the moment of her beheading when that scar at her nape was disturbed. Attempted to hide how it was gradually getting worse, like a planted seed that was growing. Eventually the two memories would be treated the exact same when triggered; the beast screaming, fighting anything that got in her way. But now the image of her son slicked back the hair that stood bristling on the back of her neck. Watched him for just a moment, how undisturbed he was, how people were being forced away from some unseen bubble around him. Not close to him. Not close to him. STILLTOOCLOSETOHIM but they at least were not touching him. Not touching her sweet Baby Boy.

She descended then, coming down from the hill and approached him. The closer she got to him the more harmony in her head. Pleased. All of them decided they were pleased to see their baby boy. She tried to fight it and yet it only got worse. “Baby Boy!” she called for him as she closed the distance, “I found you, hehehe. I found you.” and the only other time she'd ever said that similar thing was when it highlighted a massive insecurity in her ability to do so. To find the individual. To reach them. Her arms wrapped tightly around her child and she pushed an affectionate kiss against his forehead before setting him free. “Do you like the kites, sweetie? Do you wish to have one, baby boy?” her gaze rose up to the sky to watch them, so many different shapes and sizes! She wondered the practicality of some of the pieces of them, wondered what attributed to their agility. Some were certainly more agile than others, and she imagined that had to do with their shape. It was okay! They would just take the best flying one!

Entranced. Watching them soar through the sky, his hand gripping the trunk body his body leaning forwards. Breathing shallow, mesmerized by the intricate dance of all the toys up so very high. Locked on, but ensuring none would come close to him. Never close. Not as adamant as the Hydra who was stalking through the grounds of the festival, smashing noses and The Peoples faces into the ground without a care in the world. Did not realize the complete overwhelming emotions his mother felt that happened whenever he was out of her sight. Whenever he was gone. Was not gone from home too much. Not to much because every time he came home she clung to him and even though she had not kept him safe that one time, never felt more secure than when he was with his Mother. Always when he was with his Mother. Even if..Even if...OH! It swooped so low and crashed into the ground and he felt sad for a moment. Watched it flap on the ground before a child ran up and picked it up and began to run with it. That instinct, it grew and his immediate need to chase after it overwhelmed him and his feet were moving forwards, just a step, just a step and then - BABY BOY

Attention that was honed in. Honed in - Snapped broken and his smile grew and spread over his lips as he saw her so very close! "Mother! Mother! I missed you! I missed you so much and I love you! Do you see them all aren't they beautiful look at how they fly and they swoop and they dance in the sky and I wish I could be like that how do they work Mother? Look at the pretty blue one!" He was so excited and he was embracing her and squeezing her as hard as he wanted too, without fear that she would ever break. His face instantly burrowing to her neck and breathed in her scent and he felt so much calmer in that moment. Not even paid mind to the fact she had anxiety just a few moments before. Did not feel emotions like the Shadows of their family. His smiel was so bright and he was watching the kites again as she asked if he wanted one. "YES!" The sudden, and complete overwhelming emotion of elation at the mere idea that he would have a kite! "OH! I forgot i was supposed to meet you wasn't i i am so sorry mother i got distracted haha! But it is okay! It is okay i just wanted to see all the pretty things in the sky what are they called i want one will you get me one and then we can play with it together! i am sorry you had to come and find me i hope it was not too far for you oh look at that one it is going so very high!"

Held her baby. Held her baby so close. She had him now! She had him now.. And she loved when he clung to her as hard as he wanted to and she did not mind because she would not break under the larger demon's grip! Endurance and Strength would see to that. Resilient. All his many many words flooded her ears and she was so very happy! Her sweet baby boy. Her pride and joy. Her eyes skated up to the sky when he spoke of the lovely little things built of paper and other light materials. Colored paper, glitter, ornate shapes. She saw the blue one! And she saw the fast ones! And she saw the high flying one! And she decided she wanted her Baby Boy to have the one he loved the most, the one that flew the easiest and the best so she could show him how to play with it! Bird Disc did not fly quite like this, did it? How exciting!

How happy her baby sounded when she promised to get one of them for him. The exuberance of his voice forced out a happy little squeal of excitement from the older Hydra. Of course she wanted him to have the thing that made him smile, made him sound so so excited. Her gaze only pulled from scanning the selection in the air once her baby began to speak of how he was meant to meet up with the rest of his family. Wandered away. gone. gone. But it was okay! it was okay. She found her baby. no one was going to fucking take her baby. “it is okay baby boy you are not hurt it is okay” no ability to hide that portion of her deep seated anxiety, “and look! You found such lovely things i am so pleased. We will get one of these and I will show you how to make it fly. They are called kites! they are very lovely. I will get the perfect one ...” and she tried her best to ignore the fact that she had to pull her attention away from him to do so. Her gaze turned up entirely to the sky and she scouted the choices. The blue one was lovely but it did not fly as nicely as others. Some of them had so many pieces and needed multiple strings and multiple people to operate and she decided she did not want that one. She wanted one that would fly for her Baby Boy without use of his dominions. A different experience altogether.

There was one that had the loose resemblance of a manta or sting ray to sharply increase its agility and speed, a tail chain that fluttered in the wind, made of some sort of construction of origami pinwheels. She watched that beautiful one for a moment before deciding she liked how easy it was to handle and control where it was moving. It reacted immediately to tugs of the string unlike some of the more blocky ones that did not do much but float in place. This one would be fun to play with she decided! So she followed the string in the sky and began moving, hunting down the one who held the line wheel. The person who had it was off to himself, of course, because he needed the space to swish his high and low, spinning in the sky and doing such lovely tricks! It even did loops in the sky and she was impressed! So she went to the other side of the little clearing to where the man was, and she did not waste time. His eyes had barely skated down from his lovely kite to the woman who was approaching him, though even if he had the time to register what was happening he would have assumed the woman was simply there to speak to him about his lovely kite. The moment he looked at her she shoved her fingers deep into his sockets, the slender digits hooking firmly so she could yank him forward to her.

The line reel fell to the ground, the weight of it keeping his kite fluttering about with a mind of its own without the ability to actually escape. He was screaming but the yell was more like a yip, really, because she had him immediately and parted her jaws to sink her teeth into his neck once she exposed with a strong yank back of his head. Crushing discs, ripping open the valves, the spurting mess spitting out oxygen from his lungs through the new hole. Tossed him down and let him bleed there as he struggled blindly for help, for stability, for anything he could use to recover. She did not much care about what he did! Because she had the line reel for her baby like she promised him! She lowered to pick it up and immediately enjoyed the sensation of the pressure of the kits tugging at her hands. A strong, taut sensation that guaranteed her that they truly had the strongest, most perfect kite! It maybe did not flourish as prettily as all the ornate ones that sat and did absolutely nothing, but it could do tricks in the air like jets could! So, after taking a moment to lick the two fingers clean that had been shoved deep into the man's eye sockets, she offered the reel to her Baby Boy. “Here Baby! Do you want to come hold it? I will show you how.”

Not Hurt. Not Hurt. He was not hurt. Instantly his eyes looked down at his body when they parted, as if to ensure it was proper and correct. But no comment was made to the consistent phrasing she used more often than not when they were parted. His Mother, always so concerned about him! They had never spoken about his absence from the family. Had never spoken about what it was like in Panopticon. Had no idea she did not realize it was more than three days. Did not speak of it, and he was okay with that! He could speak about it to..to...Did not speak about how some of him was not whole. Did not speak of all the issues and troubles he had. Did not speak to Mother about it as did not want to upset her, a very big change to how he would go to her for every little tiny thing. Had heard of how she shut down for those years--days--and did not want that to be done again. Did not. Did not want to hurt her anymore than he already had when he was taken away. An accident. Had an accident. But this accident was not easily swept under the rug, so to speak. Had still not gone to Monai, could not. Had seen images on the television when a commercial came on and his father promptly changed it from wherever he was located. Had only seen glimpses. So...So barren. From the looks of it. What was their home like? Their old home? Had not gone there either. Should. He thought. Should go there. Should see what Sister had dug through to get him the worms, and what Father had walked through to get him his plants. But. Hadn't. Did not know why. Hesitant?

But it was okay! It was okay because Mother was smiling at him and stating how she would go and get him the perfect Kite. His eyes followed her and he wanted to stay at her heels, he wanted too but he stayed behind and saw her walking away from him. Directly to the man far away from the group, who was by his lonesome. Did not question when her fingers penetrated the skull of the man, when he fell to the ground squeeling, but clapped in excitement when she retrieved his new toy. His. His. All his. That stirring possessive one was clicking and so very, very pleased. A hop to his feet as she was coming back to him and his chin tilted up to watch the most beautiful of Kites? Yes! She called it a kite. Clapped again. Haha! Yes! He got a new toy that was so much higher and better than bird DISC! Look at how it followed her just like a kitten would. Oh. Kitten. Missed his Kittens. Even the fake one. Did not have it anymore. But that was okay! He had a new toy and he was grinning so very wide, and he was running then. His bare feet shooting off, leaving the bark he loved to touch behind as she invited him to come play. "Mine!" Was exclaimed so excitedly. So very happily. Mother always made him happy, see? Clapped before his hands took the handle from her abruptly. Took it and clung to it even as it was slickened with blood. Didn't even pay that mind, unimportant. Natural. The metallic scent of blood filling his senses and his mind was purring at it but then - But then he felt the tautness of that string and he was SO HAPPY! "Mother! I missed you! Loook! Look! Look Mother! Look at it, it's so high--No No NO Go HIGHER!" the abrupt change of emotion. The snap of his tone as that beautiful toy of his started to spiral and dip down low towards the ground. Low. Too low. And his jaw was clenching and he tugged at it too harshly and it dipped back up before zipping down again.

It was broken.

That was the reasonable conclusion as it's nose dove right into the ground and his iced breath began to pant out. Broken. His toy was broken. Just like the kittens. Just like his home. Just like bird DISC when it would not fly. Just like. Just like. Broken.

So happy. So fucking happy to watch how excited her baby was. The way he was practically vibrating with excitement. Wanted the kite she promised she would get for him and look, look! She did what she said she would, she was such a good mother wasn't she? Wasn't she?? She could at least do one thing. Could at least get him the kite. Good Hydra! How happy she was to give him something that made him so happy. So excited. Just like he was when he first saw a park and tugged at her arm. Just like that. It seemed so long ago now. When nothing complicated them. But as it seemed, they would always have a history of something beyond their knowledge that deemed it necessary to ruin everything they loved, beginning with their genesis, their survival, the things they sought separately and now together, the Hydra and the Shadow, and look how that influence continuously fucked with their children as well. She was aware she could not stop it. But! It was okay. It was okay. Because the smallest moments like these she clung to, allowed them to settle into her memory for good. Harkening back to a time where her young were pristine and new. Unhaunted. So she brought her Baby Boy the kite and watched how excited he had gotten!

He took it from her before she could properly settle with him and show him how to move it about. Very overzealous he was, but it was okay! Because the thing made him happy and he wished to play with the thing. So she did not disagree (did she even have the power to do so??) and watched as he maneuvered the thing through the air. She stood close by and watched the spinning, diving craft soar through the nice bursts of wind.

And then everything changed.
And her baby was no longer happy.
No longer pleased with her gift.
No longer pleased with anything.
SO upset.
SO furious.

And her heart sank at that. The sight of the frost pouring from him. Panicked? Panicked. And not because she was not used to his tantrums, and not because she was not used to how deeply he felt things but would a mother who very very recently lost her child without the initial knowledge that she was ever going to see him again, simply continue to brush off when her moment to make him happy took a turn for the worst? Absolutely not. Of course not. What sort of mother would not feel the sinking sensation that she was feeling? History changed behavior, and right now the serpent was incredibly high strung in response to his reaction. Ruined. Bad mother. Bad mother to give her son such a bad present, it only made him angry. Upset. He did not need to feel those things, he really did not need to feel those things after what happened. “shh baby it's okay.. don't be upset.. I will show you, it's okay.” practically a plead more than anything else. To please be calm. To please not being upset. To please not be upset with her. Maternal instinct urged her to touch him, a hand combing through his hair. Soothing, like another animal might choose to groom its young in different ways to soothe its stress. “The wind is very strong, you do not have to pull it very much. You just have to move it in the path of the wind and give it more string and it will go higher. Do you want me to show you?” do not be upset anymore, Baby Boy. It is okay. Does her best to hide the plunging temperature of her own body, frost not yet generated but the hair of her neck well on end.

Mother. Always the best Mother. Even when ice was huffing out through is nose, the coldness of his temperature plunging even colder than her own even had. Hand coiling around the handle, and jaw clenched until his teeth began to hurt. It was not supposed to hit the ground it was supposed to fly! How come it would not fly! First bird DISC! Now KITE! Nothing wanted to fly for him and all he wanted was to fly. The emotions spiking, freezing over his core and building up the pressure inside him as the need to lash out increased. Building. Building. Building --SHhhhh baby it's okay...--A stirring at the pleading in her voice. Not the same. Not the same soothing that she always did. Yes. It was there. But a difference. How long had it been since they had played together? And he was. The ice was frosting the air, and he knew the part of him that was stirring was significant. Had four of his heads. Those instinct, aggressive, possessive, watchful ones. All reacted differently to Mother, all cherished her in their own way but none like the one that slumbered. Held a bond, yes, but not that overwhelming need to hug and hug and miss and miss and love and love. Not that overbearing must have contact at all times and missed her so much the moment she was out of sight.

Not fully. Not really. And her hand was combing through his hair. Soft at first, but it seemed to increase in pressure as she was reassuring him so quickly. Promptly. Trying to calm him. Calm the growing tension in him. The stirring in his mind. He loved his Kite. His kite was his. His. His. And Mother gave it to him. That possessive one was clinging. Clutching onto the handle of the Kite that was laying flat on the ground that had caused him to get so very, very angry. Upset. F U R I O U S. But his Mother was pleading with him. Was P L E A D I N G, and suddenly he saw something in her words he had not seen before, and stroking his hair and that silence, slumbered fifth head SNAPPED and suddenly he was locking his arms around Kashiro. And squeezing. And squeezing and he was hugging her as close as he could, and it was different then the most recent times. And there was something familiar about it. Something familiar about it that was not there, but perhaps she did not notice but he noticed because there was a whimpering in his mind that was gone for so long. There was a whimpering and a purring and he was clinging to her as tears stained his cheeks. Hugging his Mother like he had not hugged her in so very, very, very long. His voice was hiccuping as the tears fell. And his hands moving to grip stronger to her as if he was so very scared that she would vanish.

"Mother! You are the best mother in the entire world and I love you so very much and I missed you mother I missed you so very much I love you mother thank you for my KITE! Mother thank you for my kite that does not fly because i do it wrong but you wills how me how to do it right and it will fly and thank you for all the bird Discs! Mother sister said you had many bird discs for me and thank you for all my kittens and thank you for my fake kitten and i miss it but i missed you more and i will never not come home to you mother i love you and i missed you okay you are best mother i am sorry i got upset! I am sorry i got upset because it would not fly because i did it wrong but please teach me how mother you are best mother please don't worry i am fine i am strong i will never get hurt and you will always protect me and i i i i i i i love you mother. I missed you mother."

Perhaps she had not noticed. Perhaps she somehow had not actively noticed that her child was not the same child she'd made not long ago, that neither of her children were the same ones she'd made not long ago. Perhaps she did not notice how there were some things that were not met with the same exuberance as they were in the past, the past when he remembered them as well as he was supposed to. Perhaps she did not notice how differently he hugged her, how loudly he spoke but yet still spoke without something, some invisible ingredient to him that had always been there before he was taken away from her. Perhaps that had not been the cause of her edging towards depression, perhaps that had not been something she had taken stock of when parts of her bickered among themselves to decide whether or not she was doing a good job as...anything. Perhaps she did not actively notice any of that. Perhaps she was not aware of the most minute changes, that Hydra who already proved to be incredibly perceptive, and had no reason to think that there was anything wrong.

Even if that were the case, despite it, the moment he embrace her, one part of her recognized that something in him immediately. If she had not actively noticed that one part of her absolutely did, and was instantly aware of the familiar interaction. The whining one, the pining one that forced him to cling to her and there was an immediate connection with the similar one in her, that hungry one, that exuberant one, the one that bounced about and leaped around its offspring happily in Tibet. An instant connection - or reconnection to be most precise. And she was holding him so tightly in return, her face pressed into his shoulder as that one sobbed uncontrollably like it had not seen him in decades. Wailed against him as he talked about the Bird Discs and the kittens and then the fake kitten that did not meow properly and did not feel warm anymore and did not really ever grow up because it was not real. Not real because she did not want him to ever know or see that he had killed the thing he loved, never wanted him to conclude that he could not have things to love, that he was a monster, that he could not cuddle things that he wished to love. Not like she had learned to think, not like she had learned to the point where she was so afraid of her Shadow, in a way, so terrified of hurting him, hated herself any time she did even if it was an accident. Ruined everything. Ruined everything. But she did not want her baby to ever know. Did not want him to know he broke his Bird Discs all the time, that he lost them sometimes, did not want him to think he should just learn not to love and want things so that he would not be hurt. Not be hurt. That was all she ever wanted for her Baby Boy and they had already hurt him so much and she could not stop it when he needed it the most and when he was crying for his mother but she could not get to him, how fucking sad. So fucking sad. But now the mixture of her wails and sobs were between happiness that this very familiar part of him clicked in her mind, and also the sheer amount of anguish that she had been bottling had finally come out. All she could manage to choke out over and over again was “I love you.. I missed you.. I love you.. I missed you..” in a continuous loop and the amount of passion did not decrease despite it.

When finally she even slightly recovered she managed to pull her head away from his shoulder, planting a loving kiss to his cheek before she stepped back to get a good look at her son like she'd not seen him in a while. So long, her hands framing either side of his face before combing through his hair yet again. And then she was swiftly wiping her eyes, desperately trying to clear them up so she could regain at least an ounce of composure. “I will show you,” her voice shook as she took a long, soothing breath that had some positive effect. Taking the reel, she moved over to where the kite had landed and returned to her baby. “First you just want the wind to accept it,” gently, nothing else required. Allow it to do the work for them, because of course they could use Gravity and it would fly forever, but there was some indescribable charm in watching it move along on its own. She wished to share that with Baby Boy. She had flown many kites once before but she was by no means an expert with them. But she knew that she could run against the wind with it and allow it to slowly ease from her hands until it was moving about on its own, entirely at the mercy of the wind and the guiding string in her hands.

So that was what she did. Moved backwards with it swiftly after positioning herself with the wind moving against, and the kite in her hand caught the hearty breezes beneath its wings. Once she was certain it had what it needed she slowly released it and kept the line taut. Allowed it more slack gradually so that it would fly higher and higher, but did not give it slack such that the line would not be taut. It meandered about the sky, swinging whichever way she manipulated the cord with her free hand, pulling it to and fro as long as the wind stayed beneath it. “Do you wish to fly it, Baby Boy?” what a pretty kite it was!

As she spoke over and over the affectionate endearments, he repeated them back each and every time. The last one no less than the very first. Fervor never decreasing, nor did his tight hold. That hold that would crush any one else. That hold that would snap all the bones in a torso until they pierced through the organs, and the blood coughed up from their throats and the limpness the only thing showing that he had another accident. The only one he did not ever have to be careful with. His Mother. His Hydra. His Kin. His family. Did not want to let go of her ever. Felt as if he had not hugged her in ages, and kept himself pinned against her in an embrace that seemed to last for a very long time and yet not long enough. Never long enough. How long had it been since he actually felt the need to hug someone? To hold someone? Not the falsified necessity that came that was as mundane as human emotions, but the overbearing, overwhelming need to actually embrace another individual.

Had forgotten about the Kite almost, well four parts of him had. Of course, his hand was still interlocked around the handle even as he had hugged her. That possessive one not easily wishing to let go, even within the closeness he wanted from his Mother. But then she was pulling away, and the instinct to latch harder onto her. To not let her move away. To cling to her even harder. Which happened. His arms locking for just a moment. Just a moment before a kiss was placed on his cheek, and then he forced the hold to loosen. To relax. To relax. Fingers uncurling from the handle as she took it, studying it carefully. Ensuring she was holding it accurately. Ensuring she was aware it was important. Ensuring, well he was not certain but whatever he was looking for she passed the test. Passed the test as she always did and he let it go. "Yes. Yes please Mother i really..Yes please." A hiccup still to his voice, the sadness or happiness or whatever emotions were swirling in his mind complete.

Watched her, his smile growing and growing the more she ran backwards. The more the kite soared into the sky. Watched as it lifted off and his feet began to pace back and forth. Back and forth. The excitement too much before he was running back to where his Mother was. "YES MOTHER!!" he as basically vibrating before he moved to snatch the kite handle. Pausing just before contact, and then more gently taking it from her hands. Gentle. Gentle. And a kiss to her cheek before that dashing smile and then he tugged at it a bit to hard and it swooped down, but the wind picked it back up as he moved to hold it gently. Gently. "Mother. Look! Haha! It's flying and it's flying so high! Mine is the best kite! I mean ours is the best kite!" The correction, the correction that was so significant to the one that wanted E V E R Y T H I N G. His smile so bright. Loved his mother. Missed his mother. Would never leave his mother ever again. Sort of wished...Sort of wished he could tell Mother everything. But so scared. So scared. A falter to his smile, just a glimmer of a glitch before it widened even more as the kite did another swoop and picked back up. OH! He was learning to fly! YES! Finally! "Best gift ever Mother! You are the best Mother, you really are!"

Oh how she didn't want to let him go. Oh how she wanted to cling to her son for as long as time would allow. But she promised him the kite. The thing that was there on the grass still, that thing that had made him so upset. She wanted to teach. She wanted to show. Let her child experience things that would make him happy and ONLY happy. Maternal instinct to teach, despite how perhaps she was afraid to. Despite how perhaps she did not really know if she was a good mother but...but...Baby Boy said she was. He said she was a GOOD mother. Even though she could not get to him. Even though she was calling out for him and could not navigate anymore and then she was so badly hurt and she tried to find her baby but could not, and she did not know if he was going to be alive. She thought that was the last time she would see him. Did not even know where he went, who had taken him. Watching her young be kidnapped from her while he cried out for her in pain, covered in his own blood. But..but he said she was a good mother. The best mother. And she wanted to cry. She wanted to scream and cry and hold him forever so no one could pry them apart and no one would sneak up on them and try to take her baby when she was not looking. She wanted to do this because it was a release, an emptying of all those things that stung at her heart and made her so uncertain. To have it all out in the open. To let it all out, a practice that the Hydras very often followed.

Dried the tears of her baby with her sweeping thumbs. Listened to the tiny little hiccups in his voice. Remembered every time he had ever cried - but not quite, because she did not know of the decades he'd spent in Panopticon. But she thought she knew so much, all the minutes, hours, days, weeks, months that her son was alive. Except for just 3 days where he was not hers to hold and love. But it was okay. It was okay. Because he said she was a GOOD mother. “It's okay, baby...” the soft words, the smallest little choke of laughter and tears purring in her voice. Like someone being distracted from their tears with something they could not help but fawn over. How adorable her son. How sweet and precious and polite even when he'd just been crying. It was okay. She would show him how to fly the kite. She would show her baby anything he had ever wanted to learn.

Oh how she loved the sound of her child's happiness. How different it sounded. Some part of her noticed exactly what it was deep down, but she had only noticed something that could not accurately be placed. He so eagerly came up to her and took the line from her so he could play with his new kite - but not before thanking her with an excited kiss to her cheek before flashing her that signature smile of his. She grinned her own back, taking the moment more to wipe away the remnants of tears on her face. Watched him play with his new toy. Watched how honed in he was, manipulating the path of the kite and making it swoop down so wonderfully! And she gasped excitedly as she watched him and applauded when it did not crash and instead dove back into the sky! Their kite. So sweet, her baby. “You are so good at flying, hehe!” how wonderful it was for the Hydras, both of those who were so obsessed with being able to do such a thing.

The best mother. The best one. The best one ever. He said it. Not her. She did not believe it but he said it and he told her multiple times and so...and so she... she was moving to him while he swooped the kite around and made it swing to and fro with the use of the line, her arms embracing him from behind as she rested her head onto the back of his shoulder. A happy, tight squeeze. “you are the best son, Alius.” the words so soft, so uncharacteristically mellow, contemplative.
