Psychic

A psychic is a wide-encompassing dominion that can foster great power over time. Psychics dabble in fortune telling and manipulation. Psychics can also put strong mental blocks in people’s minds, making them forget certain memories or even keep secrets locked in destructive magic, so that should they die, someone could not extract that information from their head (they, of course, can also reverse these effects and even break locks put on by weaker psychics or magic). Psychics have a deep resonation with the Astral Plane as well, and if they focus hard enough, they can detect all other spirits in their vicinity, even if they are not in physical form. Psychics are known for being able to talk to the dead as well, but that is neither here nor there as far as a confirmation in reality goes. To top it all off, psychics are able to place horrible curses of luck, or blessings of fortune on willing targets (meaning, someone who agrees to subject themselves to a fortune telling).

Power Based: You focus on fortune telling and manipulation. A lesser mastery psychic cannot alter others’ luck at all, but can alter their own slightly (small things, i.e. someone gives them the wrong amount of change back at a register-- bad: too little change-- good: too much change). However, legendary psychics can alter fate in ways unimaginable (big things, i.e. someone doesn’t die when they’re supposed to-- bad: they get hit by a car and pass away years before their life expectancy-- good: they live twenty years longer due to the cancer they were going to have never coming). **These alterations can stretch the imagination, but must remain in the realm of possibility. Think of this alteration as a multiplier. Even if you multiply the chances of something with a 0% chance of happening by 10000, there will still be a 0% chance of it happening (ex. 0 x 10000 = 0). It is also important to remember that fortune telling is not the same as scrying, but moreso a foggy reading on situations with the highest probability. Lesser mastery of fortune telling is basically guessing, but as a psychic masters more of their craft, fortune telling can be clear in predicting an actual path for a person and better understanding their emotions.

Character In-Depth

Personality

Seraphina isn't the easiest to get to know, that's mainly because she will do anything she can to survive. That means changing some people's fate. Better to let people think one way than know the truth. Most see a basic fortune teller, assume she's a fraud and pay up to hear the pretty things. No one wants the truth. So, Sera gives out pretty lies, takes their money and moves on. Some days she feels bad for it, but it's a living.

For most of her adult life, Sera has been on the run drifting from place to place trying to make a few bucks here and there. It's made it hard to have a lot of interest or free time. Once there was a nice park bench she liked sleeping on. Sera loves tattoos, had a handful herself, she likes whiskey, women, and videogames at least when she was younger. It's been years since Sera could play.

History

TW: drug smuggling

Sera grew up in Brazil,where a drug Lord presided over all. Her family, like most nearby, worked for him. Nothing too close, just helping get drugs where they needed to be for various dealers. Most of her young life, Sera was kept out of the 'family business’. She played with other kids, got a basic education from those around them, never actually attending school.

It wasn't till her early teen years Sera started giving fortunes out as a joke… she knew her psychic dominion worked well, but no one wanted to hear the bad, so Sera tweaked them. Sugar coating here and there, changing a little bit of luck. People paid money for it. Not seeing the harm, Seras fortunes became word of mouth. Eventually, the wrong people heard about them. Recognizing her dominion as more than sideshow tricks, the drug Lord wanted his own personal psychic.

Her years working under the drug Lord were hell. He wanted her to change luck for him and those that disobeyed. Sera experienced some true horrors, thankfully, she was able to use Duplicity to trick the people around her some. Escaping took years, and a lot of planning… but eventually Sera escaped.

Her adult life she's been on the run. Not finding a good place to stay long term, and trying to avoid her old 'boss’. Sera doesn't mind not staying in one place too long, she's seen a lot if the world. Doing palm readings, fortune telling, making her luck a little better here and there. She's had to con her way many times, but her experience and understanding of people has only grown.

Now Sera finds herself in The City. She's renting out a small palm reading studio from a man named Oz, and found the rose house. A room for rent at an affordable price. Sleeping in a bed and showering all the time has been wonderful.

Demon Information

Honey, a newer name sera's demon took on. She is protective of her human and feeds on luck of those around them.
