Character Summary

A girl can only play nice for so long. Ai is one of 3 sisters, the daughters of two prominent British pharmacologists who expected nothing but the best from their children. Ai strived to meet this expectation, and rose through the ranks of amateur boxing until she was preparing as a candidate for Olympic level consideration. Of course, that was until the discovery of a doping scandal perpetuated by her beloved coach and indulged in by her idol and rival, the top competitor from her school. This soiled the entire sport for her, and her aspirations died along with her innocence.

Sick of the expectations of peers and professors, her sister's violent outbursts, and her nagging parents, she fled to The City where the sheltered girl was corrupted in the blink of an eye. The freedom of her own agency sent her spiraling into deepest depths of the city, and it wasn't long until her thrill seeking and quests for glory got her involved in criminal activity. She became a prominent member of a low level street gang known as the Ghost Town Boys, extorting people for money and wasting it all on drugs, drinks, and vanity.

Character In-Depth

Growing up a Gale wasn't easy. Her sisters could both attest to that. Unfortunately, Ai was one of two who had the onus of meeting parental expectations. Kikio had taken all of their good faith and lenience, and even then, she was far too toxic and catastrophic to do anything but frustrate mom and dad. That left Ai and Genkai with the burden of being perfect. Unfortunately, unlike her blonde haired sister, Ai lacked both outgoing social achievement and academic prowess. She was a diligent student, always fighting to keep her grades up, going for extra help, and studying a few hours every night. Despite all her efforts, she just wasn't a very good student. She never got more than low 80s or high 70s, and most of her marks landed in the low 70 range. While many would be quite happy with this, that paled in comparison to Genkai's straight A marks and academic awards. Similarly, Ai had no interested in activities like student council or such trivial socialite tasks. She wasn't exactly a people person. Too blunt, too nonchalant, and too hot headed much of the time.

So what was a girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders to do to impress her ever expectant parents? Well fortunately, Ai was a natural born athlete. She had incredible dexterity and agility from a young girl, and always expressed interest in several sports during her childhood. For most of her younger primary school days she did track and field, where she placed in the top 3 of almost every junior sports competition she participated in.

In middle school, her mother asked her to take up the traditional practice of archery, and she obliged. She competed at a national level in 8th grade, and poured all of her free time into practicing form and accuracy. She was obsessed with perfection, her parents unrealistic expectations had been passed on to her, and she had become a cruel perfectionist who could only see the worst parts of herself and fought desperately to change them. Her obsession with becoming the best at whatever she tried to do came at the expense of making friends. She gained a reputation as the weird quiet girl who people only knew through sports teams or coaches. No one was all that close to her, and while she felt isolated and alone, to her, it was what she deserved for not being good enough to have flawless skills.

That all changed for the better in highschool, where Ai become engrossed in the world of boxing. So few schools had a boxing club in their area, and she had never had the opportunity to try it. Her demon strongly demanded she take part, wanting a real fight. It had been feeding off the competitive spirit that Ai swamped herself with, but that was nothing compared to the true rush of battle Areion hungered for. Seeing it as a good thing for the both of them, she joined her school's boxing club. She was a natural, only outdone by one girl. A student her same age who no matter how many times they sparred and fought Ai could never, ever beat. Their first year together she held nothing but contempt for Amy, seeing her only as the blockade to her becoming the best once again. But as the years went on, they developed a friendly, and healthy rivalry. The two were school stars, and made many friends amongst the athletic community of their school. The boxing club was a close knit group of girls. For once, Ai felt like she belonged, and had more to care about than just her own performance. She had friends to support, and look up to, and admire. Their coach was also a massive positive influence on Ai, an older retired gym teacher who came to the school specially to coach boxing and wrestling. He was the caring father Ai never had, her own parents too callously obsessed with appearances and too preoccupied keeping Kikio under control to give her the attention she needed. So Coach Reynolds became her mentor. He was harsh and unrelenting, but fair, and when practice was over he was kind and gentle.

All of this was a wonderful improvement to the girl's challenging life. It was all the more devastating then when her illusion of admiration was shattered all at once. They were going to nationals. The team had gone all out, this was many of their last years in highschool after all. Practicing every day after school for two hours or more. And it had paid off, or atleast, that's what Ai had believed. However, the week before the competition she discovered the horrible truth of what was going on. She had forgotten her gym bag in the locker room after practice and had returned back to get it. When she entered the change room her innocence was shattered in one single instant. The sight of Coach Reynolds, a syringe in his hand, and Amy, her idol and four year rival, with her thigh exposed, ready to receive the injection. They had been doping. Steroids, that's how the team had made such gainful strides during the past few weeks. It wasn't their hard work, their dedication, their fighting spirit. It was just shortcuts and cheating. The kind of thing she thought her best friend and mentor were too good for. Ai lost all hope. She felt so disgusted with them, with the world, with herself. Everyone was truly just out for themselves. If she couldn't even trust the two most influential people in her young life, then who could she trust?

Ai quit the team the next day, withdrew from all of her friends, and gave up on anything but passing and graduating. Her grades slipped further, and without athletic achievement to satiate her parents, she felt the full wrath of their expectations. But she was done caring. Her parents could be disappoint, they could hate her. She didn't care anymore. She wanted to get away from it all. To get out from under the weight of their demands, her crazy sisters, the memories and faces of those who she once believed in but now felt nothing but disgust towards.

A week after their high-school commencement Ai packed her bags. As she fled from their coushy two story home she found a beautiful motorcycle sitting in the drive way. Her demon had presented himself, offering her the escape she desired. Together the wings of rebellion flourished, and she drove the rest of the night, until sun up. They ended up in The City, and with newfound freedom Ai found her innocent soul corrupted and dirtied by the cities darkest shadows. Drinking, drugs, partying, sex, everything she had been barred from even considering doing during her youth. She now had free reign, and a spirit caged for so long was wild unchained. It took less than a month for her to fall into Ghost Town's criminal underbelly. She joined up with a street gang known as the Ghost Town Boys, working both as an extortionist and runner for the group. It was a dangerous life, but it was her life, and no one could tell her what to do anymore. No one could pretend like they were better than her here.

Demon Information

Areion: Steed of Conquest

A demon of challenge, contest, and fighting spirit who takes the namesake of the famous Areion of Greek legend, the steed which the barbarous Adrastus called upon in his rebellious battle against Thebes, the horse who he alone owed his escape to. It is unknown to Ai if her demon is truly the beast of legend or merely an impersonation, but what she does know is that he is just as strong, fast, and fierce as the tales told. He feeds off of rebellious spirit, the rush of battle, and pursuit and driving down of the weak. He transforms his host, in this case Ai, into the "The Inescapable", and Areion regularly refers to Ai by this title. In an attempt suit her more modern sensibilities and the lifestyle of the 21st century, the demon has chosen to take the form of a sports bike rather than a horse, though many say they can hear the bike whinny and the sound of hooves clopping behind them as she speeds after them rather than revving engines and screeching tires.

When not able to stay with her in his full form, Areion will continue on as her motorcycle helmet, allowing her to keep the demon with her whilst not needing to drag a motorcycle everywhere she goes.

For much of her life Areion never physically manifested, it wasn't until her ovebearing desires to escape home and travel somewhere far away that he first revealed himself corporeally. Before this he was an echo-y voice in her head, cheering her on, goading her when she felt like giving up, and demanding she never relinquish nor retreat in the face of conflict. In many ways, he was a personal coach to her both in life and her career in boxing, before she gave it up.

Aerion's true form is that of a sable steed cloaked in a mane and tail of brilliant blue flame.
